Milled and Unmilled Almond Hulls
Almond Hulls are a versatile source of soluble fibre and sugar that can be used to replace or stretch fodder supplies including cereal or pasture hay. With a moderate energy value (10.5 ME) and high sugar content, they can also substitute grain (e.g. barley) during low production periods, such as late lactation in dairy cows or when maintaining dry sheep. This can lead to considerable cost savings in the ration. Milled almond hulls offer the added benefit of increased bulk density, making freight more cost-effective by allowing greater load weights.
